Action: Elevates eyebrows

Epicranial aponeurosis

Location: Light colored connective tissue at the top of the skull

Action: Serves as the attachment for muscle

Temporalis

Location: In temporal region of the skull

Action: Closes jaw

Buccinator

Location: Cheek muscle

Action: Compress cheeks

Orbicularis oculi

Location: Eye muscle

Action: Closes eyes

Orbicularis oris

Location: Mouth muscle

Action: Purses lips

Levator labii superioris

Location: under eye, attached to Orbicularis oculi

Action: Elevates upper lips

Mentalis

Location: Muscle of the mental region- chin

Action: Elevates lower lip

Masseter

Location: Sides of maxilla area

Action: Closes jaw

Zygomaticus major

Location: Underneath the zygomaticus minor

Action: Retracts & elevates corners of mouth

Zygomaticus minor

Location: Above the zygomaticus major

Action: Retracts & elevates corners of mouth

Sternocleidomastoid

Location: back of ear to neck

Action: Together: flex neck Alone: turns face to opposite side

Digastric "Two bellies"

Location: At center of mandible and end of mandible

Action: Depress mandible

sternothyroid

Location: Lower region of muscle near the trachea

Action: Depresses larynx and hyoid bone

sternohyoid

Location: Not split, also next to the trachea

Action: Depresses larynx and hyoid bone

Mylohyoid

Location: large muscle area under chin

Action: Elevates hyoid bone

Omohyoid superior belly

Location: Outerside of the sternohyoid (vertical)

Action: Depresses and retracts hyoid bone

Omohyoid inferior belly

Location: The horizontal part of the omohyoid

Action: Depresses and retracts hyoid bone

depressor labii inferioris

Location: Below lips (off to the sides)

Action: Depress lower lip
