Vedic Age (1500–500 BCE)
Named for the Vedas; Aryans contact with native Dravidians; development of caste system ("varna" = color).

Brahmins = priests & scholars; Kshatriyas = warriors & gov't officials; Vaishyas = landowners, merchants, artisans; Sudras = peasants & laborers (mostly non-Aryans).
