Diversity
The practice or quality of including or involving people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders, sexual orientations, etc.
Multiculturalism
The view that cultures, races, and ethnicities, particularly those of minority groups, deserve special acknowledgement of their differences within a dominant political culture.
Pluralism
A state of society in which members of diverse ethnic, racial, religious, or social groups maintain and develop their traditional culture or special interest within the confines of a common civilization.
Contributions Approach (Curricula)
Students exposed to diversity with no context or explanation (holidays).
Additive Approach (Curricula)
Still textbook coverage with some context/theme provided.
Transformational Approach (Curricula)
Students encouraged to examine ideas and events from different perspectives.
Social Action Approach (Curricula)
A problem solving, reflective thinking approach to social studies.
