Cardiac Catheterization
An umbrella term for all right and left heart catheterization from any percutaneous route.
Coronary Angiography
Used to indicate selective intubation and visualization of a coronary artery.
Acute Coronary Syndrome
Covers a range of disorders, including a heart attack and unstable angina caused by sudden reduced blood flow to heart muscle.
Coronary Artery Disease
Disease characterized by the accumulation of atheroma in the coronary arteries leading to reduced blood flow.
Tricuspid Valve Disease
Disease affecting the tricuspid valve, indicating dysfunction in the right heart.
Mitral Valve Disease
Disease affecting the mitral valve, which regulates blood flow from the left atrium to the left ventricle.
Echocardiogram
An ultrasound-based diagnostic imaging technique to visualize heart structures and assess function.
Coronary Atheroma
A type of plaque within the coronary artery that is not the only cause of occlusion.
Ischaemic Heart Disease
A condition characterized by reduced blood supply to the heart, often causing chest pain or discomfort.
Aortic Valve
Composed of three semilunar cusps, it regulates blood flow from the heart to the aorta.
Coronary Angioplasty
A procedure used to open narrowed or blocked coronary arteries.
Stenting
The process of placing a stent in a narrowed artery to keep it open.
Rotablation
A technique that uses a rotating diamond-coated burr to remove atheroma from the coronary arteries.
Pulmonary Veins
Transport oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atrium of the heart.
Inferior Vena Cava
Returns deoxygenated blood from the lower half of the body to the right atrium.
Right Coronary Artery
Arises from the ascending aorta and supplies blood to the right side of the heart.
Left Coronary Artery
Divides into left anterior descending and circumflex arteries supplying the left side of the heart.
Dual Antiplatelet Therapy
The use of two medications to prevent blood clots in patients who have undergone stenting or other coronary interventions.
Electrophysiology
The study of the electrical properties of biological cells and tissues, particularly concerning heart function.
Haemodynamically Compromised
A state where blood flow is inadequate to meet the body's needs, often requiring interventions.
Cardiac Devices
Implantable devices that help manage heart conditions, including pacemakers and defibrillators.
