Recording
A method of capturing audio or video to allow for future reference.
Anatomy
The branch of science concerned with the bodily structure of humans, animals, and other living organisms.
Osteology
The study of the structure and function of bones.
Cortical Bone
Also known as compact bone, it is dense and forms the outer shell of bones.
Cancellous Bone
Also known as trabecular or spongy bone, it is lighter and contains holes, often found at the ends of long bones.
Epiphysis
The end part of a long bone, initially separated from the shaft by a growth plate.
Metaphysis
The region between the epiphysis and the diaphysis, where bone growth occurs.
Osteoblasts
Cells that build up bone by depositing bone matrix.
Osteoclasts
Cells that break down bone tissue and absorb bone.
Osteocytes
Mature bone cells that maintain bone tissue.
Biopsychosocial Model
A model that considers biological, psychological, and social factors in health and illness.
Palpation
The act of using one’s hands to examine the body, especially for anatomical landmarks.
Bony Landmarks
Specific points on bones where muscles, tendons, or ligaments attach.
Proximal
Situated nearest to the center of the body or the point of attachment.
Distal
Situated away from the center of the body or the point of attachment.
Anterior
Positioned towards the front of the body.
Posterior
Positioned towards the back of the body.
Medial
Positioned towards the midline of the body.
Lateral
Positioned away from the midline of the body.
Fracture
A break in the continuity of a bone.
Weight Bearing Exercise
Physical activity that requires the muscles to work against gravity, crucial for maintaining bone density.
Periosteum
The dense layer of vascular connective tissue enveloping the bones except at the surfaces of the joints.
