What is prejudice?
A differential assumption about the abilities, motives, and intentions of others based on race; it refers to thoughts or attitudes
What is discrimination?
Differential treatment or actions toward others based on their race; it refers to behaviors or actions
What is institutionalized racism?
Differential access to goods, services, and opportunities of society by race, often embedded in laws, policies, and practices
What is personally mediated racism?
It includes prejudice and discrimination by individuals through intentional or unintentional assumptions and actions (e.g. disrespect, suspicion, dehumanization)
What is internalized racism?
When individuals of stigmatized races accept negative messages about their own abilities and worth, leading to self-devaluation or resignation
