New cards

The work done to overcome friction

Transfers energy to the atoms of the nail and the molecules of the wood

2
New cards

this increase in KE of these particles ?

Acounts for the increase in internal energies of the nail and wood along their surface of contact

3
New cards

Using heat to?

Work can transfer energy to a substance Which increases

This internal energy can decrease, the reverse is also possible

Produce work

The internal energy of the substance

Through a transfer of energy as heat

Energy can be transfered into an object as heat and from the substance as wrokl

4
New cards

For example?thus?

A flask with water if you put a ballon on it and heat up the flask as heat the water will reach its boiling point and the constant temperature would cause an increase in the volume of the steam that expnsion provides a force that pushes the ballon outward against the firce exerted by the atmosphere

The steam does work on the ballon and the internal energy decreases as predictid by the law of conservation of energy

5
New cards

Heat transfer on work

What does it mean?

As energy to or from a system

It refers to that work and transfer of eenrgy are really simillar both are transfered to or from a system and causes a change in temprature

6
New cards

Enviroment

Thermal dynamic system

Anything outside of the system that can affect or be affected by the systems behaviour

A collection of matter withing a defined boundary which no matter passes

7
New cards

Def of work

Work in thermodynamic systems

The volume and pressure are rerived from?

Product of force applid to an object and the distance moved by that object un the same direction of the force

Work is the product of teh change of volume of teh gas and the pressure applied on or by the gas

The force divided by area and voluem is derived by area multiplied by the displacement.

8
New cards

Volumes relation with work?

Work can only be done if?

If the voluem is posisteve teh work done by the gas on the piston is positeve if the volume is negative the work done by the piston on the gas will be negative and if the volume is constant there will be to work done

The volume changes
