Rush-Bagot Treaty, Convention of 1818
said to limit naval forces in the Great lakes which helped the tensions between them. set the border of the US and Canada at the 49th parallel. gave them joint control of the Oregon territory and resolved fishing rights.
Adams-Onis Treaty
was a treaty with Spain that gave the US Florida marking a clear border between them and finished the entire east coast for the US and the gulf of Mexico. the US also took back their “claiming” of Texas. it made them be at peace and avoid war.
Monroe Doctrine
said that the US will stay out of Europe if Europe would stay out of the US. Latin America had js got independence from spain and portugal in new countries so the US wanted to protect them. It showed that the US was becoming more confident and powerful especially in the western hemisphere.
Westward Expansion
settlers go west for economix growth and the US ends up having 22 states after reaching 60,000 for statehood
Second Bank of the United States
was supposed to help stabilize the money supply after the war of 1812 but many opposed it because they thought it only helped the rich. ANdrew Jackson ends up shutting it down years later

11 states are free from slavery and 11 aren’t.

South - defended slavery
west - leaned toward defending
John Quincy Adams
son of John Adams. He was the 6th president who helped write the monroe doctrine and negotiate the adams-onis treaty to get Florida. he wanted to build roads, canals, and school to help grow the country. he became a rep of the house after his presidency and helped fight against slavery. he won in a very messy election with Henry clay.
Henry Clay
US congressman and senator and ran for president 5 times but never won. he he played a big role in keeping the country together and shaping laws. He helped with the Missouri Compromise and the Compromise of 1850. he believed in the American system which was the build roads and canals across the country, create a national bank and tax imported goods. he helped John Quincy Adams win os he later became the secretary of state.
missouri compromise
a deal that balanced the free and slave states. Missouri will come into the US as a slave state and Maine will be split from MA and join the US as a free state to balance the states. the 36 30 latitude became a thing, north of the line states were free except missouri and below were slave states.
why did the federalists lose power?
they seemed friendly with britiain so ppl started to stop liking them anymore. they didn't support the war of 1812 which made them seem very unpatriotic. at the Hartford convention some of them talked about braking away from the US. the Democatic republicans started to become more popular led by Jefferson and they stood for things people actually cared about.
how did the US and Britain settle their issues?
they stopped fighting with the Treaty of Ghent and made deals and agreements like the Rush-Bagot Agrement that stopped naval forces in the Geat Lakes and made the Canada border, they also just tried to avoid future wars.
why was the monroe doctrine created?
to avoid European wars and keep them out of the US. it also was to protect the new latin America countries from them. they wanted to make sure they new that the western hemisphere was there land.
how did foreign policy such as the Rush-bagot agreement, the adams-onis treaty, and the monroe doctrine promote nationalism?
the agreement made them seem safe and proud that they solved problems peacefully, the treaty made them feel more powerful and stronger and the doctrine made them feel a sense of pride and leadership. overal they made the US feel more secure and united.
How did the Missouri Compromise attempt to solve the issue of Slavery?
because it tried to balance the free and slave state but that didn;t solve the actual agruement and issue of slavery.
