Aquinas’ 5th Way
In order to prove God, Aquinas believes we can look at the universe and its design and purpose
We can observe that things in the universe that lack knowledge act with some sort of purpose
This purpose is not accidental but is something that is built-in and designed
Anything that lacks knowledge needs something with knowledge to guide it
From this, we can assume that there is some sort of higher power that is giving purpose to all natural things
Aquinas’ 5th Way: God
the world is governed by God is who is the guiding force that makes things achieve their purpose deliberately
natural bodies are all things of less intelligence than God
Analogy of an Archer and an Arrow
The goal of an arrow is to reach a target but the arrow can obviously not do this on its own
The arrow needs to be guided by something, an archer which guides to it's end goal, the target.
Archer and Arrow: analysis
God is the archer
Natural bodies are the arrow
God guides us to our end goal/ telos
