What do you think about this quote?

“I believe that we should begin with the realization that acting entails a craft as subtle and delicate as the most demanding creative art. Humanism is at the root of it. To bring to an audience the revelations of the failings and aspirations, the dreams and desires, the negative and the positive aspects of artists. Then we will be respected and have respect for ourselves and respect for acting.”

Acting is complicated and takes a lot out of a person. By bringing emotion and loaded topics to a stage the actors themselves must respect the art and understand not only their part but the importance.

Uta Hagen is very passionate about acting and has devoted her life to the art. When Uta Hagen says humanism is at the root of acting, what does she mean? Why is this important? What is so powerful about theatre? (this will be a discussion question 1 full paragraph minimum)

When Uta said that humanism is at the root of acting she meant that acting is interpreted and inspired by human emotion and experience. She means to emphasize that a respect for acting is necessary as it is respect for ourselves. This is important because a good performance not only requires respect, but experience, emotion, and knowledge. Theatre is powerful because it brings topics to a stage that explore real world conflict that can open the eyes of the unaware. it is also an art form that provides an outlet for people to express themselves and their craft.
