Levels of Aircraft Maintenance

Three levels: Organizational (squadron), Intermediate (AIMD), and Depot (civilians).

MMP

Monthly Maintenance Plan; signed by the MO and published on the last day of the month to which it applies.

Technical Directive (TD)

A document containing instructions for technical changes or inspections.

Jet Engine Sections

The five basic sections are Intake, Compression, Combustion, Turbine, and Exhaust.

Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow

The concept of any engine the Jet Shop works.

Afterburner

Adds thrust by adding fuel to exhaust.

Air Boss

Commanding Officer of the Air Department, responsible for all flight deck operations; sits in Primary Flight Control (09 level).

NATOPS

Established in 1961, it is a manual designed to standardize procedures for operating an aircraft.

V-1 Division

Personnel responsible for moving aircraft on the flight deck and making sure the deck is free of FOD.

V-2 Division

Personnel who maintain and operate all catapult launching and arresting gear.

V-4 Division

Personnel responsible for fueling, defueling, and repairing fuel stations.

Red Jersey

Worn by Ordnance, EOD, and Crash and Salvage personnel.

Yellow Jersey

Worn by Aircraft Handling Officers, Plane Directors, and Catapult/Arresting Gear Officers.

Purple Jersey

Worn by the Aviation Fuel Crew.

Brown Jersey

Worn by Plane Captains.

Green Jersey

Worn by Catapult and Arresting Gear personnel, Maintenance personnel, and Photographers.

Blue Jersey

Hypovolemic Shock

Shock caused by severe blood and fluid loss, often from traumatic injury.

ORM

Operational Risk Management; involves five steps: Identify hazards, Assess hazards, Make Risk Decisions, Implement Controls, and Supervise.

Class A Mishap

A mishap involving reportable material property damage of $2,000,000$ or more.

Nerve Agents

Chemical agents that disrupt nerve impulses.

Acceleration

The rate of change of speed and or velocity of matter with time.

Bernoulli’s Principle

When fluid passing through a tube reaches a constriction, the speed of the fluid passing through the constriction increases while the pressure decreases.
