Accommodation
A tourism sector that provides lodging options, ranging from luxury five‑star hotels to basic one‑star properties; includes hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, resorts, villas, pension houses, cottages, and vacation homes.
Food and Beverage Service
The process of preparing, presenting, and serving food and beverages to customers; includes a spectrum from fine dining to quick service and employs roles such as chefs, servers, and managers.
Attractions
Facilities or sites visited by tourists for entertainment, education, or leisure; can be natural (beaches, mountains) or man‑made (monuments, malls, museums) and may be publicly or privately owned.
Transportation
The sector that enables movement of travelers by air, water, road, or rail; includes airlines, airports, car rental, coaches, cruises, ferries, rail services, and buses.
Travel Trade
People and firms that resell travel products and services; middlemen between tourism sectors and clients; includes travel agencies/OTAs, tour operators, and destination marketing organizations.
MICE
Stands for Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions; a fast‑growing tourism segment focused on planning and hosting conferences, seminars, and events.
Meeting
A gathering of two or more people with a common agenda to discuss a purpose or topic.
Incentive
A reward given to employees for outstanding performance or achievement.
Convention
A large gathering of delegates or representatives for a shared purpose, often with concurrent activities.
Exhibition
An event that showcases and promotes new products, services, or materials to attendees.
Government (Tourism Role)
Elected authorities that plan, regulate, and promote tourism; responsibilities include policy planning, safety regulations, and market promotion.
Plan and Facilitate Tourism
Developing policies, guidelines, and safety measures to guide tourism growth and management.
Control and Supervision of Tourism
Oversight to prevent disasters, maintain quality standards, balance supply and demand, and protect stakeholders.
Direct Ownership of Tourism Components
Government ownership of assets such as parks, airlines, airports, museums, hotels, and transport hubs to facilitate industry development.
Promote Tourism to Home and Overseas Markets
Marketing activities (maps, literature, information centers, advertising) aimed at increasing visitation domestically and internationally.
DOT (Department of Tourism)
Philippines’ primary planning, coordinating, implementing, and regulatory agency for tourism development and promotion.
NPDC
National Parks Development Committee; develops, maintains, and promotes parks for recreation and education through government and community partnerships.

NEDC

Association of Southeast Asian Nations; regional organization of 10 Southeast Asian countries promoting development, cooperation, and stability.
APEC
Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation; regional forum of 21 economies promoting trade, investment, and sustainable growth.
IUCN
International Union for Conservation of Nature; network of governments and NGOs focused on conserving nature and promoting sustainable use.
