What are the Constitution and the Statutory Code?

- Highest-ranking governing document of the fraternity.

- 2 sets of laws stored together in one document.

What does the Constitution do? (2 things)

Outlines the fraternity's structure and its governing bodies.

Includes the definition of membership and the rights contained therein.

What does the Statutory Code do?

Outlines specific chapter structures, discipline, and financial policies.

How are changes made to the Constitution and Statutory Code?

Changes can only be made at Chapter Congress.

Constitution changes require a 3/4 vote.

Statutory Code changes require a majority vote.

What does the Board of Directors' Statement of Policy contain?

Policies set by AKPsi's Board of Directors, including:

- Detailed fraternity and chapter financial policies

- Chapter minimum standards

- Detailed discipline policies

- Conduct policies

- Communication policies

- Chapter attendance at events

- Member attendance

How are changes made to the Constitution and Statutory Code?

Changes can only be made by the Board of Directors by a majority vote.

What does the Ritual of Alpha Kappa Psi contain?

Contains all necessary rituals for student and alumni chapters.

What are the rules and purpose of the Ritual of Alpha Kappa Psi?

The ritual manual is never to be added to or deleted from.

All rituals should be presented in their entirety.

These rituals are the ties that bind brothers regardless of their chapter or experience.

Who writes the Chapter Bylaws and why?

Each chapter writes its own bylaws to reflect local chapter operations.

What must Chapter Bylaws incorporate?

Must incorporate policies from:

- Constitution and Statutory Code

- Board of Directors' Statement of Policy

- Ritual of Alpha Kappa Psi

What are the rules for changing the Chapter Bylaws?

Changes must:

- Be presented to the chapter for 1 week and receive an affirmative 2/3 vote of the chapter

- Changes required because of changes to higher governing documents are automatically reflected in chapter bylaws; no vote is required.

Who is in charge of the Chapter Bylaws, and how often should they be changed?

- Chapters should have a committee to review chapter bylaws.

- Bylaws should remain in a state of change, but should not be completely rewritten every year.

What are the AKPsi meeting requirements?

- 2 initiation meetings per year

- 2 business meetings per month (of the academic year)

What are the rules on missing meetings, and what happens if you exceed the limit?

-Student members may miss up to 3 meetings per semester OR 2 meetings per quarter.

(Limits are chapter-specific and should correlate to the university calendar)

After exceeding the limit, members are subject to suspension from the chapter.

What is our quorum? (The minimum number of members present at a meeting to officially conduct business and make valid, binding decisions)

At chapter meetings, the quorum is 50% +1 percent of the total number of eligible votes

What are the 10 duties of AKPsi members?

1) Attendance at every meeting and function.

2) Membership work: each member should recruit at least one new member per semester to ensure the stability of the chapter.

3) Assume responsibility, be reliable, complete every task assigned, and help other brothers where needed.

4) Cooperate with the president and other officers.

5) Make every effort to maintain at least a "B" average.

6) Meet financial obligations promptly.

7) Live the values of brotherhood, integrity, service, unity, and knowledge.

8) Support, abide by, and enforce the fraternity's Constitution and Statutory Code, Board of Directors' Statement of Policy, and all other fraternity policies and directives.

9) Prepare for professional and business success.

10)Solemnly avow the Ritual of Alpha Kappa Psi.
