Locomotor Movements
Movements where the body travels through space from one location to another.
Walking
Stepping on one foot followed by the other foot continuously.
Running
Stepping on one foot followed by the other with longer strides and faster speed than walking.
Jumping
Springing on one foot or both feet and landing on both feet.
Leaping
Springing on one foot and landing on the other foot.
Sliding
Gliding on the floor either sideward, forward, or backward using the right and left foot alternately.
Galloping
Stepping on one foot followed by another step cutting the first one either sideward or forward.
Non-Locomotor Movements
Movements done by a part or several parts of the body in any direction with a fixed base of support.
Bending
Moving around any joint to change from a straight position to a curved position.
Extending
Straightening or extending any part of the body.
Twisting
Rotating a body part while the base stays stationary.
Turning
Circular movement of the body including the base.
Swinging
Moving a body part side-to-side or forward to back like a pendulum.
Balancing
Distributing body weight evenly to remain upright and steady.
Manipulative Movements
Movements that involve handling and controlling objects with the hands, feet, or other body parts.
Throwing
Propelling an object away from the body using the hands.
Catching
Receiving a moving object with the hands.
Kicking
Striking an object with the foot.
Dribbling
Bouncing a ball with the hand or foot.
Striking
Hitting an object with an implement or body part (e.g., bat or hand).
Rolling
Sending an object across a surface.
