What is a Stream Drainage Pattern?
The pattern formed by the streams, rivers, and lakes in a particular drainage basin.
What is a Landscape Region?
A region characterized by specific terrain (mountains, plains, plateaus).
What is Bedrock Structure?
The arrangement and composition of the solid rock beneath the soil or other surface materials.
What is Igneous Intrusion?
When magma cools and solidifies beneath the surface, forming intrusive igneous rocks.
What is Weathering?
The breaking down or dissolving of rocks and minerals on the surface of the Earth.
What is Erosion?
The process by which soil and rock are removed from the Earth’s surface by wind
What are the 3 major types of landscapes?
Mountains, Plains, and Plateaus
What
What are Mountains?
A region characterized by high elevation and steep slopes.
What are Plains?
A flat or gently rolling area with low relief.
What are Plateaus?
An elevated flatland or tableland with steep sides.
What are Constructive forces?
Uplifting, folding, faulting, and volcanic activity.
What are Destructive forces?
Weathering, erosion, and deposition.
How do mountains typically form?
Mountains form through tectonic plate collisions, volcanic activity, and faulting.
What are some characteristics of plain landscapes?
Plains are characterized by their low elevation, gentle slopes, and minimal relief.
What processes lead to the formation of plateaus?
Plateaus are formed by tectonic uplift, volcanic activity, and erosion, creating elevated flat surfaces.
What role does climate play in shaping landscapes?
Climate influences weathering and erosion rates, which significantly affect the appearance and evolution of landscapes.
How do rivers and streams contribute to landscape formation?
Rivers
What is Weathering?
The breaking down or dissolving of rocks and minerals on the surface of the Earth.
What is Erosion?
The process by which soil and rock are removed from the Earth’s surface by wind
What is Denudation?
The wearing away of land surface by wind, water, ice, or gravity.
What is Mechanical Weathering?
Mechanical weathering breaks rocks into smaller pieces without changing their composition.
Chemical weathering changes the chemical composition of rocks through reactions
