What is the RT's responsibility in patient care?
Implementing treatments and therapy based on our patient assessments.
What is an important goal in patient interaction?
Establish a rapport, trust, respect quickly, and practice active listening.
What are the different spatial relationships when interacting with a patient?
Intimate, Personal, Social.
When should you wear gloves according to universal precautions?
When contact with blood and body fluids, mucous membranes, or non-intact skin is possible. When handling items or surfaces soiled with blood or body fluids. When performing any invasive procedure, venipuncture or blood test.
What is a symptom?
What the patient reports.
What is a sign?
What you can see or measure as a clinician.
What is the normal heart rate range?
Between 60-100 BPM
What is tachycardia?
High heart rate, > 100 BPM.
What is bradycardia?
Low heart rate, < 60 BPM.
What is systolic blood pressure?
Number on top.
What is diastolic blood pressure?
Number on bottom.
What is the normal temperature range?
97-99.5F (36.0C to 38.0 C)
What is the normal pulse oximetry range?
95-100% on Room Air.
What is a normal respiratory rate?
10-20 breaths per minute
What is pulse pressure?
Difference between systolic and diastolic pressure
What do we use assess when assessing respiratory rate?
Assess degree of dyspnea.
What causes obstructive breathing?
Blockages in the airways that obstruct the ability to expel air.
What causes restrictive breathing?
Conditions affecting the capacity of the lungs to take in air.
How does perfusion impact hypertension and hypotension?
Increased or Decreased.
What considerations are important for oximetry accuracy?
Ensure normal Hb value and type, correlate with patients HR, watch for interference.
What is an altered level of consciousness?
↓Wakefulness, awareness, or alertness.
What is assessed when assessing LOC?
Hyperalert, delirious, lethargy, comatose.
What does JVP reflect?
Reflects central venous or right atrial pressure. Normally 9cmH2O
What is radiopaque?
Dense substance: white, bone
What is radiolucent?
Less dense, appears black, air.
