Austria-Hungary then issued Serbia a 10-point ultimatum.

Serbia rejected one of the points, so Austria-Hungary declared war.

Russia mobilised its troops to support Serbia.

Germany declared war on Russia on August 1st, and then on France on August 3rd because France allied with Russia because of the 1894 alliance.

Britain stayed out of the conflict until its neutrality was threatened.
