Define diffusion
this is the movement of molecules form a higher ocncetrated area to a lower concetrated area. As a result of their random movement until equilibrium is reached.
Diffusion can occur in ——— and ———- but not in ———
Diffusion can occur in liquids and gases but not in solids.
Explain how the rate of diffusion can be affcted by the relative molecular mass
moecules at room temperature have the same amount of kinetic energy therefore lighter particles will travle faster as their molecular mass is low so the energy is more than enough for them to move, as for the particles with higher molecular mass the rate of diffusion decreases as the amount of energy needed for them to nmove fast is not there becuz the oarticles are heavy.
Between Ammonia and HCl which one will diffuse faster and why?
Ammonia will diffuse faster a it has a higher rate of diffusion due to its particles being light, as for the HCl it contains a higher relative atomic mass therefore it will take much longer for it to diffuse.
