What was the heirarchy (Fuedalism)
"Feudalism" (17th–19th Century)
The term "feudalism" was coined in the 17th century by historians and political theorists to describe the medieval system of land tenure and vassalage.
It became widely used in the 19th century to characterize the economic and social hierarchy of medieval Europe.

Social and political system that was used during the Middle Ages.

Manorialism Manor System
Economic system that was used during the Middle Ages.
Has deep connections to feudalism but it is a distinct regime.
Lord exercises legal and economic control over the peasants.
Trade declined after the Fall of Rome, so manors filled an economic need.
SELF SUFFICENT
why are manors described as self-sufficient?
It was a small space that people farmed on and rarley left, farming supplief food and money to the community

Clergy has control over the PEOPLE and thus can cause problems for the Feudal order, even though the Feudal order has control over the LAND.

How much of the world did most serfs see? What financial limitations did they face? What was the hygine like in manor life?
Serfs only saw their manor —> did not leave or travel
no need to trade or for movment becuase manors were SELF-SUFFICENT!!
