Crime

an offense committed against the public good, or society.

Defendant

a person who is accused of a crime.

Plaintiff

the party that accuses a person of a crime.

Prosecutor

the government official who brings that case against the defendant.

Felony

a major crime.

Misdemeanor

a less serious crime.

Infraction

a minor offense that is usually punishable with a fine and not with jail time.

Intent

purpose; meaning; significance

Motive

a need or desire that causes a person to act

Impulse

an impelling force; an urge that prompts an unpremeditated act or feeling

Murder

the intentional killing of another person

Manslaughter

killing another person without intending to do so

Battery

the unlawful touching of another person

Assault

an attempt to commit a battery

Domestic

relating to home or household, or to a specific state or country.

Burglary

under common law, is breaking and entering into a house at night to commit a felony.

Larceny

the unlawful taking of someone's personal property with the intent to keep the property away from that person.

Robbery

the wrongful taking of someone's property by threatening violence or using violence

Vandalism

willful or malicious damage to property.

Embezzlement

the crime of fraudulently appropriating money or property for one's own use.

Allegedly

to submit as justification; to assert without proof.

Contempt

open disrespect or willful disobedience of a court or legislative body.
