The Philippine President
The president of the Philippines is the center of power and the head of both government and state. He is not constrained by the judicial and legislative branches in performing his duties as the country’s chief executive.
Qualifications for Presidential Candidates
A presidential candidate must be: a natural-born Filipino citizen; a registered voter; able to read and write; at least forty (40) years old on election day; and a resident of the Philippines for at least 10 years before the election.
Executive Power
The power to enforce and administer the laws.
Legislative Power
The power to have control of all the executive departments, bureaus, and offices.
Administrative Power
The power to appoint heads of executive departments, ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls, and officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Military Power
The power as commander-in-chief of all the armed forces in the Philippines, to suspend the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus, and to declare martial law in cases of invasion or rebellion when public safety requires it.
