Capital of Mongol empire, created by Ghengis Khan, example of change: first time the Mongols (nomadic society) have a stable home/city.
Khanbaliq (Beijing)
Built by the Mongols, Khubilai Khan, Genghis Khan's grandson.
Samarkand
On the Silk Road, Tamerlane has it built, similar to Karakorum, home for Turks.

Turks take over this city.

Helped spread Islam into India, original intent was to conquer, invade, and rule India, hated Hinduism and Buddhism, burned Buddhist temples, creates a sultan of deli and decided to stay in India.

Chinggis Khan
United all the tribes, created the greatest fighting force, mastered diplomacy, broke up all tribe affiliations, gave people positions in the military based on skill instead of heritage.
Khubilai Khan
Ruled China, grandson of Ghengis Khan, established Yuan Dynasty, tolerant of other religions, tried to expand Mongol territory into Southeast Asia but they failed because of jungles and Mongols don’t do well in humid and damp weather, no horses, and they couldn’t use archers. Tried to conquer Japan, but failed because of the samurai soldiers, the divine winds(typhoon), no horses.
Marco Polo
Traveled from Europe to China on boat, Worked for Khubilai Khan, diplomat and tax collector, influence for , Marco Polo get captured and put in jail, his book was a best seller, an even bigger seller when the printing press is created.
Tamerlane
Left a legacy of conquest, unites the Turks, defeats Ottoman forces, brings down the Ilkhanate of Persia.
Osman
He dominated parts of Anatolia, the beginning of the Ottoman Turks, attacked the Byzantine empire, moved into the Balkan.
Yuan Dynasty
The dynasty established by Khubilai Khan in China.
