What is a rundown?
A run through the middle or along the side of the arena that builds speed toward the stop.
What should a good rundown demonstrate?
Control and a gradual increase in speed toward the stop.
What is a run-around?
A run around the end of the arena before approaching the stop or rollback.
What should you watch during a run-around?
Lead, arena position, distance from wall, distance from center, and control.
How far from the side wall must the horse remain when approaching a stop or rollback in a required run-around?
At least 20 feet.
What is the penalty for violating the 20-foot wall requirement?
1/2 point.
How far from either side of the center must the horse remain in a required run-around?
At least 10 feet.
What is the penalty for violating the center requirement?
1/2 point.
What should happen to speed during a good rundown?
It should increase gradually while remaining controlled.
Does simply going very fast guarantee a positive maneuver score?
No.
