SI Units
Système International, a set of international standard units used for measuring quantities.
Dimensional Analysis
A method for solving problems by focusing on the units involved and converting them where necessary.
Conversion Factor
A ratio that expresses how many of one unit are equal to another unit, used to convert between units.
Avoirdupois System
The most widely used system of weights in the English measurement system, where the pound is divided into 16 ounces.
Troy System
A system of weights used for precious metals, where the troy pound is divided into 12 ounces.
U.S. Fluid Ounce
A measure of volume equivalent to 1/16 of a U.S. pint.
Metric Prefix: kilo (k)
Represents a factor of 1000, used in metric units such as kilogram (kg) and kilometer (km).
Density Equation
Density equals mass divided by volume (d = m/V), typically measured in g/cm³.
Significant Figures
Digits in a measurement that contribute to its precision; includes all certain digits and one uncertain digit.
Precision
The degree to which repeated measurements yield the same or similar results.
Accuracy
The degree to which a measured value aligns with the true or accepted value.
Exact Numbers
Numbers that have an infinite number of significant figures, usually resulting from counting or defined quantities.
Liquid Measure Conversion
1 U.S. gallon equals 3.785 liters, used to convert volume measurements between units.
Length Conversion
1 inch equals 2.54 centimeters, a standard conversion factor between imperial and metric length units.
Metric System
A decimal-based system of measurement used globally, based on units of ten.
Weight Measurement: Pound (lb)
The basic unit of weight in the English system, where 1 pound equals 16 ounces.
Mass Measurement: Kilogram (kg)
The fundamental unit of mass in the metric system, equivalent to 1000 grams.
