When inspecting the 575V cables, what must be examined?
The connections have proper clearance and there is no signs of damage for the cables, covers, or pins
When inspecting the 27 Pin cables, which sides is the jumper and communication jumpers
Jumper cable - Left side of car / Comm cable - Right side of car
575V Cables should not hang lower than [ ] above the top of the rail and [ ] for Hose bags
“5 inches” & “4 inches” respectively
For Couplers and Operating mechanisms, check damage and defect for:
Coupler, wear plates, operating rods
what are the safety precautions for inspecting and going in-between equipment
Never go between the 575V cables when power is applied and close all valves before repairs
For diaphragms, what are we inspecting for?
Tears, cracking or damage in the diaphragms
What is the minimum thickness of a Tread brake
3/8” including backing plate
What is the release range of tread brakes during application and release
Clearance of 1/4” and 3/8” from the wheel during release
For the brake disc actuator fingers, how much do they move upon release and application
1/4” from the bottom of the converter base on release and 1/4” down and stop on application
During a hydraulic failure, how far down does a finger move from the converter base when it needs to be replaced
Approximately 1-1/2”
For the trucks and air springs, ensure:
No loose or missing components or damages. No overheating axles
What is the tread thickness on a wheel

What is the flange height and thickness on a wheel?
Height: 1-1/2” & Thickness: 15/16”
When visually inspecting the carbody, make sure:
No graffiti or broken windows, no broken or loose attachments, no damage to body, proper ground clearances, and door open and close properly
Make sure side doors are:
Clear of snow/ice, free of damage/cracks, and yellow anti slip tape is in place
What axle and truck # is on the B-end of a coach car?
Axle #1 & #2 are on Truck #1 on the B side
A missing coupler locking pin is:

What must be inspected during a fire extinguisher inspection?
Visually checked every inspection, checked for 1) seal, 2) charge gauge, 3) inspection card
What pieces of equipment should be in sealed bags in cab and accessible cars?
megaphone, safety vest
What emergency equipment is in the cab car?
Flagman’s kit, pipe wrench, air hose, brake pipe air hose, track switch broom, 27 pin plug, 575 plug, paper towel, EDR
What is the proper door checks procedure
1) Open all doors, 2) Walk through train, 3) Cycle doors, 4) At last car, close doors, 5) Re-walk train
What types of lights need to be inspected in coach cars?
Cove lights, end door lights, stairwell lights, washroom lights
What safety and sanitary requirements are there for washrooms?
1) Trash receptacle in place, 2) door works, 3) toilet led not damaged, 4) mirror in good condition
What is the procedure to test the washroom exhaust fan?
1) Exhaust breaker is “ON”, 2) hold a piece of paper, 3) press firmly against screen, 4) Fan should start
What is the maximum buffer height between walk plates?
No more than 1/2”
In the Accessible coach, ensure:
1) Wheel chairs restraints, storage area, and ramp are stored properly and clean, 2) Seat flipped upright
How many emergency windows are present for a coach car?
12, there are 6 emergency windows on each side of every coach
