Line of Gravity (LOG)
An imaginary vertical line that passes through the body’s centre of gravity toward the ground; balance is maintained when this line stays within the base of support.
Base of Support (BOS)
The area beneath and between the body’s points of contact with the ground that supports its weight; a wider BOS increases stability.
Centre of Gravity (COG)
The point at which the body’s mass is considered to be concentrated; the LOG extends downward from this point.
Stability
The ability to maintain or return to equilibrium; achieved when the LOG remains inside the BOS.
Imbalance
A temporary state that occurs when the LOG shifts outside the BOS, causing the body to move in the direction of the shift.
Movement Initiation
The commencement of body motion that results from the LOG moving relative to the BOS, often purposefully in sport skills.
