Stoichiometry
The branch of chemistry that uses balanced chemical equations to calculate the amounts of reactants and products in a reaction
Mole ratio
A ratio between the amounts in moles of any two substances in a balanced chemical equation, used to convert between substances
Limiting reactant
The reactant that is completely used up first in a chemical reaction and limits the amount of product that can form
Excess reactant
The reactant that is not completely used up in a chemical reaction and remains after the reaction is complete
Theoretical yield
The maximum amount of product that can be produced from a given amount of reactants, calculated using stoichiometry
Actual yield
The amount of product actually obtained from a chemical reaction during an experiment
Percent yield
A measure of how efficient a reaction is, calculated by dividing the actual yield by the theoretical yield and multiplying by 100
Percent error
A measure of accuracy that compares an experimental value to the accepted or theoretical value, calculated by dividing the difference by the accepted value and multiplying by 100
Mole fraction
The ratio of the moles of one component in a mixture to the total number of moles of all components
