What does T statistic tell you?
the size of the difference between two groups means relative to variation within groups
What does a high T statistic mean?
there is probably a significant difference between the two groups
What does a low T statistic mean?
there is probably not a significant difference between the two groups
When to use a T test?
When you want to compare the means of two groups, not more than two though, uses continuous data which comes from counting
When to use one way anova test?
for comparing mean of more than two groups, uses continuous and discrete, continuous is whatever is measured and discrete is the category (what group)
When to use correlation analysis?
when you want to test the strength of a relationship between two variables, to see if they have a correlation
What does correlation coefficient of 1 mean?
perfect positive correlation, tells you when one variable changes the other variable changes in the same direction
What does correlation coefficient of 0 mean?
no relationship between variables
What does correlation coefficient of -1 mean?
perfect negative correlation, when one variable changes, the other changes in the oppisite direction
When to use simple linear regression?
for understanding relationship between two variables, need independent and dependent variables
When to use chi square test?
used to test hypotheses, compares size of discrepancies between expected results and actual results
What is a null hypothesis?
that there is no difference in groups you are comparing
What does p value assume?
the null hypothesis is true, sampling protocol did adhear to random sampling, there were no mistakes in data collection
What is P value when talking about test statistics?
the probability of obtaining a test statistic at least as extreme as the one we would have observed if random variation was the only reason for any slope to deviate from 0
What is a confidence interval?
the range of values that you expect your estimate to fall between a certain percentage of the time if you run experiment again
What does 95% confidence interval really mean?
You are confident that 95 out of 100 times the estimate will fall between the upper and lower values specified by confidence interval
What does high p value tell you?
the data is fairly compatible with the null hypothesis
What does low p value tell you?
the data is not fairly compatible with null hypothesis
How to do name-year CSE citations?
(author year), (author and author year), (author et al. year)
