Joshua
The son of Nun and assistant to Moses who became the leader of Israel after Moses' death.
Jordan River
The body of water the Israelites crossed to take possession of the land given by the Lord.
Rahab
A prostitute in Jericho who hid the two Israelite spies and was saved during the city's destruction.
Scarlet Cord
The item Rahab tied in her window as a sign to the Israelites to spare her household.
Chatham
The location from which Joshua sent the two spies secretly toward Jericho.
Two Thousand Cubits
The required distance maintained between the people and the Ark of the Covenant while crossing the Jordan.
Gilgal
The site where the Israelites encamped after crossing the Jordan, marked by twelve memorial stones.
Manna
The food provided by God in the wilderness that ceased the day after the Israelites ate the produce of Canaan.
Commander of the army of the Lord
The figure Joshua encountered by Jericho who commanded him to remove his sandals because the ground was holy.
Rams' Horns
The types of trumpets blown by seven priests during the seven-day march around Jericho.
Akin
The son of Carmi who broke faith by taking devoted things from Jericho, leading to Israel's initial defeat at Ai.
Valley of Achor
The place where akin and his household were stoned and burned, and where a great heap of stones was raised.
Ai
The city captured by Joshua through an ambush strategy involving thirty thousand mighty men of valor.
Mount Ebal
The location where Joshua built an altar of uncut stones and wrote a copy of the law of Moses in the presence of Israel.
Gibeonites
The people who used worn-out clothes and dry bread to deceive Joshua into making a covenant with them.

Designated places where a manslayer who killed someone unknowingly could flee from the Avenger of blood.
Forty-eight
The total number of cities with pasture lands given to the Levites from the other tribes' inheritances.
Witness Altar
An altar of imposing size built by the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh as a sign between them and the rest of Israel.
One Hundred and Ten
The age of Joshua at the time of his death.
