mental disorder

A mental disorder is a psychological condition characterized by abnormal thoughts, feelings, or behaviors that cause significant distress or impairment in functioning.

projective tests

psychological assessments that involve interpreting ambiguous stimuli to reveal underlying thoughts and emotions.

major depression

disturbances in emotion w behavior, cognition and body function.

bipolar disorder

episodes of depression and mania occur

vulnerability-stress model

a theory explaining how individual vulnerabilities and external stress factors can interact to increase the likelihood of developing psychological disorders.

generalized anxiety disorder

continuous stae of anxiety

panic disorder

person experiences recurring and impairing panic attacks

phobia

exaggerated fear and avoidance of specific situation

social anxiety disorder

fear, anxiety and avoidance of social situations involving possible scrutiny

agoraphobia

fear and avoidance of places where escape is difficult

PTSD

a mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, characterized by flashbacks, nightmares, and severe anxiety.

OCD

a chronic disorder characterized by unwanted, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and/or repetitive behaviors (compulsions) aimed at reducing anxiety.

BPD

a personality disorder marked by unstable moods, behavior, and relationships. It often includes impulsive actions and intense emotional responses.

Antisocial personality disorder (APD)

lifelong pattern of irresponsible antisocial behavior (lawbreaking, violence, etc)

Psychopathy

a specific form of antisocial personality disorder characterized by a lack of empathy, shallow emotions, and manipulative behavior.

DID

one or two more distinct personalities with own names and traits.

Schizophrenia

a severe mental disorder characterized by distortions in thinking, perception, emotions, language, and sense of self, often including hallucinations and delusions.

Psychosis

a mental condition characterized by a disconnection from reality, which may include hallucinations or delusions.
