Greek; Tantalus was a king who angeryed the gods. The gods punished him by throwing him in a pool of water with fruit branches above him. Every time he reached for fruit, the branches would move away. 

narcissistic

Origin-Greek; Narcissus was told by the blind seer that he would live a long life as long as he never recognized or looked at himself. He was pursued by many, but rejected each one of them. Narcissus’s pride attracted the wrath of Nemesis, the goddess of retribution, who caused him to fall in love with his own reflection.
