Incontinence
Inability to control urination.
Midstream Urine Specimen
Urine collected mid-urination for testing; requires cleaning the genital area, starting to urinate, and then collecting the sample mid-stream.
Urinary Retention
Inability to empty the bladder completely.
Urinary Catheter
A flexible tube inserted into the bladder to drain urine.
Bladder Irrigation
Using a syringe to gently remove fluid buildup or blood clots from the catheter and bladder.
Clean Catch Method
A method of collecting urine that minimizes contamination is referred to as the 'clean catch' method. You should clean yourself first, pee a little into the toilet, and then pee into the cup.
Three-Way Catheter
A type of catheter with three channels: one for draining urine, one for inflating a balloon to keep it in place, and one for irrigation fluids.
24-Hour Urine Specimen
A laboratory test in which all urine is collected during a 24-hour period.
Radical Prostatectomy
Surgical removal of the entire prostate gland and surrounding tissues.
