Identity
An individual's sense of self, including their perception of roles and purpose in life, how they internalize responsibilities and actions, what they stand for, and their personal beliefs.
Army Ethic
The set of enduring moral principles, values, beliefs, and laws that guide the Army profession and create the culture of trust essential to Army professionals in the conduct of missions, performance of duty, and all aspects of life.
Climate
A short-term experience within a unit based on shared perceptions and attitudes that reflects how members think and feel, shaped by organizational and direct leaders.
Culture
The long-lasting, deeply embedded beliefs, customs, values, goals, and practices that characterize the Army as a profession or larger institution over time, shaped by strategic leaders.
Direct Leadership
First-line leadership characterized by daily involvement, close proximity, primary focus on short-range problems, and a span of influence ranging from a few to dozens of people.
Organizational Leadership
Leadership exercised through subordinate leaders that focuses on long-term organizational objectives, synchronization of multiple functions, and operating within commander's intent.
Strategic Leadership
Leadership at the major command through DOD/Joint Staff levels that shapes Army culture, allocates resources, communicates strategic vision, and influences several thousand to hundreds of thousands of people.
Leadership Requirements Model (LRM)
An Army model referenced in ADP 6-22 that describes the leader attributes and competencies outlining what a leader must BE, KNOW, and DO.
Ethical Climate Assessment Survey (ECAS)
A evaluation tool used to determine an organization's ethical climate based on member character, internal policies and practices, leader actions, and environmental/mission factors.
