The maintenance of a constant internal environment in response to changes internally and externally

Organs of homeostasis

Brain, lungs, muscles, pancreas, skin, kidneys

Thermoregulation risks

• Normal BT is 37C - optimum temp. for enzymes

• Low BT - slower reactions, and hypothermia

• High BT - enzymes denature, heat stroke, dehydration

How does thermoregulation occur?

• Hypothalamus is thermoregulatory centre

• Hypothalamus recieves information from skin receptor cells (ext temp) & internal receptor cells (int temp)
