Hollow Cathode Lamp
Emits light at a specific wavelength which is absorbed by the target metal.
Different metals would require a different type of Hollow Cathode Lamp (for example, copper would use copper lamp)
Atomizer
Heats up the atoms and causes them to transition into an excited state.
Can be a flame, or a furnace depending on type of AAS.
Monochromator
Isolates the specific wavelength of light which is absorbed by the atoms.
Filters out other wavelengths to make the measurement more accurate.
Detector
Measures the intensity of the transmitted light after absorption.
Converts light signal into electrical signals for analyisis.
Data Processor
Converts the electrical signals into readable numerical values.
Also plots the absorbance against the concentration and allows us to find the value of the metal concentration.
