Setting
The time and place in which the events of a narrative occur. Setting can make a contribution to the narrative’s overall impact and meaning. It can be used as a character of foil in relation to the protagonists, limiting factor, revealing style, character, or theme.
General Setting
The “large” time and place. Often used to underscore the universality of the work.
Specific Setting
The “small” time and place. It is used to create a definitive ambiance that impacts on the work’s possibilities. Can also have a symbolic meaning.
Discriminated Occasion
A discrete, specific moment portrayed in a fictional work
