~95% of research animals are rats & mice with mice be the most used and rats coming in second.Guinea pigs are the most commonly used laboratory animal (23% of the total animals used that were not rats or mice in 2019)

Institute for Laboratory Animal Research, provides institutional guidelines for care and use of laboratory animals and writes the 'Guide'.
AALAS
American Association of Laboratory Animal Science, promotes humane care and use of laboratory animals, establishes standards and licensure of lab animal personnel.
