Manuals

A book of instructions, especially for operating a machine or learning a subject; a handbook.

FAA (Federal Aviation Administration)

The agency of the United States Department of Transportation responsible for the regulation and oversight of civil aviation within the U.S., as well as the operation and development of the National Airspace System.

FARs (Federal Aviation Regulations)

Rules prescribed by the Federal Aviation Administration governing all aviation activities in the United States, forming part of Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations.

CAAP (Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines)

The government body responsible for regulating and promoting the growth of aviation in the Philippines.

PCAR (Philippine Civil Aviation Regulation)

Regulations issued and enforced by the CAAP which govern all aspects of aviation and related policies in the Philippines.

CAB (Civil Aeronautics Board)

A Philippine government agency tasked to regulate, promote, and develop the economic aspect of air transportation with supervisory control over air carriers and sales agents.

ATC (Air Traffic Control)

A service provided by ground-based air traffic controllers who direct aircraft on the ground and through controlled airspace, and provide advisory services in non-controlled airspace.

AMO (Approved Maintenance Organization)

An organization authorized to perform maintenance, preventive maintenance, or alterations on an aircraft, engine, propeller, appliance, or component within its specified ratings and operational limits.

ATO (Approved Training Organization)

A training institution or organization for both pilot and maintenance schools.

AOC (Air Operator Certificate)

A certificate authorizing an operator to carry out specified commercial air transport operations.

AMOC (Approved Maintenance Organization Certificate)

A certificate issued by CAAP for aircraft repair stations that comply with requirements and are granted authorization to operate as a Repair Station.

ATOC (Aviation Training Organization Certificate)

A certificate issued by CAAP for aviation training institutions that comply with the authority's requirements.

ATA (Air Transport Association)

The trade association of U.S. certificated air carriers founded by 14 airlines in 1936; also known as IATA.

AD (Airworthiness Directives)

A notification to owners and operators of certified aircraft that a known safety deficiency with a particular model of aircraft, engine, avionics, or system exists and must be corrected.

TSO (Technical Standard Order)

A minimum performance standard issued by the Federal Aviation Administration for specified materials, parts, processes, and appliances used on civil aircraft.

ACs (Advisory Circulars)

Publications offered by the FAA to provide guidance for compliance with airworthiness regulations, pilot certification, operational standards, training standards, and Title 14 CFR rules.

Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM)

A manual tailored for a specific aircraft containing the technical airworthiness data and information required to safely operate the aircraft.

Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM)

The formal document detailing the way in which all maintenance tasks carried out on an aircraft shall be accomplished.

TCDS (Type Certificate Data Sheet)

An FAA document that records type certification data of a product, such as control surface movement limits, operating limitations, placards, and weight and balance.

STC (Supplemental Type Certificate)

A national aviation authority-approved major modification or repair to an existing type-certified aircraft, engine, or propeller.

SB (Service Bulletin)

A notice sent to an aircraft operator from a manufacturer informing them of a product improvement.
