Endosymbiotic theory

The theory that organelles with membranes like the mitochondria and the chloroplast were once free living organisms that were engulfed by the host cell and instead of being digested was eventually assimilated and now provide a symbiotic relationship with each other.

LUCA

The ancestor with which all eukaryotic cells came from. This cell is believed to have a nucleus and produced sexually.

Endosymbiont

A cell living in another cell to both mutual benefit.
