Abrasion
Loss of skin due to a body part being scraped across a rough or hard surface.
Avulsion
A piece of skin either torn off completely or left hanging as a flap.
Bruise
Injury caused by a blunt object striking the body and crushing the tissue beneath the skin.
Closed wound

Known as fainting, caused by temporary reduction in blood supply to the brain.
Anaphylactic shock
Shock caused by an allergic reaction to food, medicine, or insect stings.
Occlusive dressing
Dressing that can be made of plastic wrap or aluminum foil.
Direct pressure
Method used to control bleeding by applying pressure directly on the wound.
Level of consciousness
A measure of a person's awareness of their surroundings and ability to respond.
