AWS Cloud Adoption Framework (AWS CAF)

A framework that organizes guidance into six areas of focus to assist in cloud migration.

Six R's of Migration

The six strategies for migrating applications to the cloud: Rehosting, Replatforming, Refactoring, Repurchasing, Retaining, and Retiring.

Rehosting

Also known as 'lift-and-shift,' it involves moving applications without changes.

Replatforming

Also known as 'lift, tinker, and shift,' it involves making a few optimizations to applications without altering core architecture.

Refactoring

Reimagining how an application is architected by using cloud-native features, driven by business need.

Repurchasing

Replacing existing applications with cloud-based versions, typically involving a switch to a software-as-a-service model.

Retaining

Keeping critical applications in their original environment, delaying migration until necessary.

Retiring

Removing applications that are no longer needed from the enterprise IT portfolio.

AWS Snow Family

A collection of physical devices designed to help transfer large amounts of data into and out of AWS.

AWS Snowcone

A small, rugged, secure device for edge computing and data transfer, featuring 8 TB of usable storage.

AWS Snowball

A physical device for large-scale data migrations, offering different storage capacities and compute capabilities.

AWS Snowmobile

An exabyte-scale data transfer service capable of moving up to 100 petabytes of data in a rugged shipping container.

People Perspective

Supports the development of an organization-wide change management strategy for successful cloud adoption.

Governance Perspective

Security Perspective

Ensures that the organization meets security objectives and implements appropriate security controls.

Operations Perspective

Serverless applications

Applications that do not require provisioning or managing servers, where AWS handles fault tolerance and availability.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Services

AWS services that use AI to perform various tasks like speech-to-text conversion and fraud detection.

A platform that simplifies the process of building, training, and deploying machine learning models.
