Declaration of Sentiments

Written in Seneca Falls to declare that all "men and women are created equal"; used the Declaration of Independence to argue for women's rights

A philosophy led by Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau emphasizing the importance of civil disobedience, social responsibility, intuition, and non-conformity to society

Sojourner Truth

Second Great Awakening

A series of religious revivals . Stressed a religious salvation through good deeds and tolerance for all. The revivals led to many reform movements and attracted many women.

Underground Railroad

a code name for escape routes through Southern forests and swamps that runaway slaves followed to their freedom in the North. Harriet Tubman was its most famous "conductor" leading more than 300 slaves to freedom.
