Two types of Nervous System
Central nervous system and Peripheral nervous system
What travels through neurons
Electrical impulses
What does the nervous system help with
Coordination and regulation of body functions
What is a Nerve Impulse
Electrical signal which passes along the nerve cells called neurons and transmits information throughout the nervous system.
What is the function of Axons
They reduce the time wasted when the impulse is transferred from one neurone to another
What is a Motor Neurone
A motor neurone carries impulses from the Central Nervous system to effectors such as muscles and glands
What is a Sensory Neurone
A sensory neurone carries impulses fro mthe sense organs (sensory receptors) to the central nervous system
What is a Relay Neurone
The middleman inside the CNS connects sensory to motor neurones
Define Reflex Action
Automatically and rapidly integrates and coordinates the stimuli with the responses of effectors
Which neurones does a reflex action require
Sensory, relay, and motor neurones.
What is the gap between neurones called
A synapse
How the simple reflex arc works
A stimulus affects a receptor
A sensory neurone carries the impulses from the receptor to the spinal cord
Connector/Relay neurone carries impulse slowly across spinal cord
The motor neurone carries impulses from the cns to the effector
The effector which is either a muscle or a gland carries out the resonse
