Parental Arrangement
The alleles that occur together on the same chromosome in the parent.
Recombination Frequency
Indication of how closely together 2 genes are based on how frequently recombinant gametes are observed relative to the total number of gametes.
1/5
Vocabulary flashcards based on lecture notes about genetic recombination and linkage. Terms include key concepts like parental arrangement, recombination frequency, cis and trans arrangements, and genetic mapping.

Parental Arrangement

Recombination Frequency
Indication of how closely together 2 genes are based on how frequently recombinant gametes are observed relative to the total number of gametes.
Unlinked Genes
When the frequency of recombinant alleles is 50%, equivalent to independent assortment of genes on different chromosomes, indicating genes are unlinked.
Cis Arrangement
both wild type alleles are on one homologous chromosome and both mutant alleles are on the other homologous chromosome.
Trans Arrangement
When one wild type and one mutant allele are located on one homologous chromosome and the opposite on the other homologous chromosome
Genetic Mapping
Used to determine the likelihood of different phenotypic classes in a cross.
