What is the definition of stabling?
Leaving rail traffic unattended and secured.
What must be taken in consideration about where you stable a train?
Wherever practicable, NOT be stabled where they obstruct yellow marked walkways.
Wherever possible, NOT stabled across bitumen roads or walkways where they may restrict movements of emergency services, vehicles, or personnel
Wherever possible, leave a gap of at least 1 metre between stationary railcars and railcars being stabled on the same road.
NOT where they will foul any converging road, except when instructed to do so by Depot Master, Yard Master or Driver in charge of shunting (i.e. Shed Driver).
What do fouling point markers looks like, and where are they placed?
Fouling points are marked by a fouling point marker, which is an upturned piece of rail that is painted white (these have traditionally been referred to as a clearance board).
Fouling point markers shall be placed between the two adjacent tracks and be aligned with first sleeper on the clear side of the fouling point.
Drivers may be required to stable trains in sidings or platforms/terminating locations due to:
Degraded Operations or a Condition Affecting the Network
Railcar defects or restrictions not permitting the train to continue to its destination
Special Events such as Stadium Events
Prior to commencing shunting in Yards, what driver supervisory system must be set up to enforce limits of authority and speeds, where practicable?
ATP
Identify the locations where 6 cars can be stabled.
Stow roads
River dead end roads
In front of DMU 1 or 2
Identify the locations where a maximum of 2 cars can be stabled.
East end outside of each EMU Sheds
4 DMU - East end of Driver's footpath
East end outside of 1 DMU
Where are the Neutral Sections located within the yard?
4 (E. end DMU), 7 (E. end EMU), 8 (E. end EMU)
You have requested permission past the Blue Sign to perform a shunt to Signal 220 to stable railcars in another road. When must the NCO be contacted to confirm the completion of the shunt movement?
When the railcars are clear of Signal 220 and any associated Blue Signs (i.e outwards road)

You must stop at the 4 car (not proceed to the 6 car), otherwise you will not be able to safely change cars
If you accidentally go past the 4 car marker, you will need permission to continue to 6B (if empty)
