New cards
what is nominal data?
categorical data (eg. hair colours)
2
New cards
what is ordinal data?
in a sequence (eg. a rating scale)
3
New cards
what is interval data?
data in an order with a measurable distance (eg. cm or seconds)
4
New cards
what is the sign test looking for?
a difference
5
New cards
what is the experimental design of a sign test?
repeated measures
6
New cards
what is the level of measurement for a sign test?
nominal data
7
New cards
how do you conduct a sign test?

1. Have a table of data with the before and after conditions and the number of participants (No.)
2. Look at each row of the table and if the second condition is a higher score then put a + if it is lower put a –
3. Any scores that are the same discount that participant from the analysis
4. Add up the number of + and –
5. Take the least frequent sign and call this the S value (this is called the calculated / observed value)
8
New cards
how to work out if a sign test result is significant?
Calculated S (at 0.05) must be equal or less than the critical value for significance shown on the table
9
New cards
what is a two tailed hypothesis?
non-directional
10
New cards
what is a one-tailed hypothesis?
directional
11
New cards
what is a chi-square test looking for?
a difference or association
12
New cards
what is the experimental design for a chi-squared test?
independent groups
13
New cards
what is the level of measurement for a chi-squared test?
nominal data
14
New cards
what information do you need for a Chi-squared test?

1. the calculated value of x
2. the degrees of freedom
15
New cards
how do you calculate the degrees of freedom?
(rows-1) x (columns-1)
16
New cards

difference
17
New cards
what is the experimental design of a Mann-Witney test?
independent groups
18
New cards
what is the level of measurement for a Mann-Witney test?
ordinal data
