Technical Drawings serve three purposes:
visualization, communication, and documentation.
Stages of Design Process
problem identification, ideation, refinement/analysis, and implementation/documentation.
Sequential Engineering
Manufacturing activities occur in a sequential order, leading to inefficiencies in time and money.
Concurrent Engineering
Integrates design and manufacture to optimize all elements in the product life cycle, enhancing efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Lettering Standard
Hand-drawn notes typically use 3mm (1/8 inch) lettering; legibility and acceptable styles are crucial.
Surface Types
Surfaces can be planar, single curved, double curved, or warped.
Contours
Main outlines that separate an object from surrounding space, indicating positive and negative space.
Centerlines
Show axis of symmetry, indicate paths of motion, and locate bolt-hole circles.
Hidden Lines
Dashed lines representing features that are not visible
Edges
Interaction between two surfaces.
Vertices
Intersection of three or more surfaces.
Point
Represents a location in space with no dimensions.
Important Skills for Drawings
Accuracy, speed, legibility, and neatness are essential for effective sketches and drawings.
How many principle views are there?
6
Third-Angle Projection
Views are produced as if the observer is outside looking in; commonly used in the US.
Isometric Views
Offer a visual reference for parts described in orthographic views, may not show hidden lines.
Plane Surface Orientations
Can be normal, inclined, or oblique relative to the plane of projection.
How many principle dimensions are there?
3
What are the 3 regular views
Top, front, and right-side view
Which view shows the width and depth of an object
Top view
Which view shows the height and width of an object
front view
which view shows the depth and height of an object
right side
A hole that appears as a circle in the top view is indicated in the front view with___lines

The two distinct classifications of graphic representations are…
Artistic and technical
Accurate CAD drawings are usually produced in which of the following design stages?
Refinement/ analysis
