Tīng wǒ de huà, xiànzài bié shuōhuà - Listen to me (my words). Do not talk now

xiào - laugh

你每天都笑吗？

Nǐ měitiān dōu xiào ma - Do you laugh every day?

游

yóu - to swim, to tour

十月我们这里有很多游人

Shí yuè wǒmen zhèlǐ yǒu hěn duō yóurén. - There are many tourists here in October

戏

xì - drama, play

我很喜欢看戏

Wǒ hěn xǐhuan kǎn xì - I like to watch dramas very much

偷

tōu - steal

我的钱不多，别偷我的钱

wǒ de qián bù duō, bié tōu wǒ de qián - I do not have a lot of money. Don't steal my money

懒

lǎn - lazy, sluggish

他很懒，不想工作

Tā hěn lǎn, bù xiǎng gōng zuò - He is lazy and does not want to work

考

kǎo - to give/take an exam

我们今天考生字吗？

Wǒmen jīntiān kǎo shēngzì ma - Are we taking an exam on new characters today?

试

shì - to try, to test; examination

今天我们只有口试

Jīntiān wǒmen zhī yǒukǒu shì - We only have a speaking test today

迟

chí - tardy, late

现在学汉语不迟

Xiànzài xué hànyǔ bù chí - It is not late to learn Chinese now

到

dào - to arrive, to get to

他怎么还没到？我们先走吧

Tā zěnme hái méi dào? Wǒmen xiān zǒu ba - How come he still has not arrived? Let's go first

cóng - ever [used before negation]; from

他吃素，从不吃肉

Tā chī sù, cóng bù chī ròu - He is a vegetarian and never eats meat

开车

kāi chē - to drive an automobile

他开车的时候，我听音乐

Tā kāichē de shíhou, wǒ tīng yīnyuè - When he drives, I listen to music

时候

shíhou - (the duration of) time

你什么时候去上课？

Nǐ shénme shíhou qù shàng kè? - When are you going to class?

电话

diànhuà - telephone

我开车的时候，他在给他朋友打电话

Wǒ kāi chē de shí hou, tā zài gěi tā péngyou dǎ diànhuà - While I drive, he is making a phone call to his friend.

走神儿

zǒu shénr - to be absent-minded

你上课的时候别走神儿

Nǐ shàng kè de shíhou bié zǒu shénr - Don't be absent-minded when you attend classes

下课

xià kè - to get out of class

我们什么时候下课？

wǒmen shénme shíhou xiàkè - When are we going to end our class?

开玩笑

kāi wánxiào - to crack a joke

他爱开玩笑

tā ài kāi wánxiào - He likes to crack a joke

游戏

yóuxì - recreational game

这是什么游戏？怎么玩儿

zhè shì shénme yóuxì? Zěnme wánr? - What game is this? How to play it?

偷懒

tōu lǎn - to be lazy secretly

你工作的时候偷懒吗

Nǐ gōng zuò de shíhou tōu lǎn ma - Do you try to be lazy secretly when you work?

考试

kǎo shì - to take/give an exam

我们什么时候考试？

Wǒmen shénme shíhou kǎoshì - When are we going to have an exam?

迟到

chídào - to be/arrive late

他今天上中文课的时候迟到了

Tā jīntiān shàng zhōngwén kè de shíhou chídào le - He was late when attending the Chinese class today

有时

yǒushí - sometimes

我看电视的时候有时喝茶

Wǒ kǎn diànshì de shíhou yǒu shí hē chá - When I watch TV, I sometimes have tea

总

zǒng - always

他吃饭的时候总要吃肉

Tā chī fàn de shíhou zǒng yào chī ròu - He always wants to eat meat when having his meals

老

lǎo - always (with a negative feeling)

我做作业的时候，他老看电视

Wǒ zuò zuò yè de shíhou, tā lǎo kǎn diàn shì

jīngcháng - often

我看报的时候经常用字典

Wǒ kǎn bào de shíhou jīngcháng yóng zì diǎn - I often use a dictionary when I read newspapers

很少

hěn shǎo - seldom

我妈在中国的时候，我很少给她打电话

Wǒ mā zài zhōngguó de shíhou, wǒ hěn shǎo gěi tā dǎ diàn huà - When my mom was in China, I seldom gave her a call

偶尔

ǒu'ěr - once in a while

我吃早饭的时候偶尔喝一杯咖啡

Wǒ chī zǎo fàn de shíhou ǒu'ěr hē yī bēi kāfēi - I have a cup of coffee once in a while when having breakfast.

几乎不

jīhū bù - almost never

我们要考试的时候，他几乎不睡觉

Wǒmen yào kǎoshì de shíhou, tā jīhū bù shuì jiào - When we are about to have an exam, he almost does not sleep
