The period of time during the French Revolution in which the Robespierre-led government executed thousands of political figures and ordinary citizens.

The Girondins

A political faction during the French Revolution that was mostly moderate, did not like extreme views on either side, and supported a Constitutional Monarchy.

The Mountain

A political faction during the French Revolution that was the most radical and whose support came from the lower middle class and poorer people in society.

The Plain

A political faction during the French Revolution that were mostly "swing voters" whose initial support was for the Girondins, but eventually switched over to the Mountain.
