What is a lease

  • an agreement by a person to furnish an aircraft to another person for compensation, regardless of the size or type of aircraft.

9
New cards

Wet vs dry lease

Wet: defined as a lease of an aircraft with at least one crewmember provided. The charter of an aircraft to a passenger under FAR Part 135 is an example of wet lease. Compensation paid for the lease is the payment for an air transportation service, similar to riding in a taxicab (This is not okay)

Dry:lease of an aircraft without any crewmembers. Compensation is in form of a rental payment in exchange for the lessee’s own use of the aircraft being rented, analogous to obtaining a rental car for one’s ground transportation needs. This may be under Part 91. (This is okay)

10
